George Carlin was honored last night at the Kennedy Center with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Carlin was informed that he’s been selected as the 11th recipient just a week before he died this past June.
Sounds like everyone attending had a wonderful evening, though not without some irony:
And as a comedian who made [...]

The forthcoming Disney-Pixar movie UP has had it’s release date bumped up from June 12, 2009 to May 29, 2009. Hey — two weeks is two weeks!
They also have a proper site for the movie now UP : The Official Website. This site is, at this point, little more than a teaser for [...]

Senator Barack Obama appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart yesterday:
“I think that there’s a certain segment of hardcore Sean Hannity fans that probably wouldn’t want to go have a beer with me — there’s no doubt about that. But I think for the average voter, they’re saying to themselves, ‘What’s all this stuff [...]

Who can forget the immortal words of Ronald Regan, October 28, 1980, in his closing remarks of the second presidential debate?
“Are you better off than you were four years ago? Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the stores than it was four years ago? Is America as respected throughout the [...]

Eight years ago. Good point.
Six weeks ago. Not a chance.
Four weeks ago. Sometimes.
Two weeks ago. Moment of weakness?
I’ll bet that John McCain’s handlers wish he’d stop letting the “real” John McCain come out from time to time and stick to the “new” John McCain, who’s willing to deal in lies, half-truths, misrepresentations, innuendo, speculation and [...]

Gotta love that Macalope! This time he takes to task Tom Kaneshige and his InfoWorld piece “A new etiquette for the iPhone generation”:
…people love showing off their iPhones.
Yeah, what is up with that?! My god, people! Get a phone you’re embarrassed of! Tuck it away in the closet! Bury it in a mason jar [...]

First let me state for the record that I do not watch television, except for the occasional indulgence of Masterpiece Theatre or CSPAN. No offense intended, but I find pretty much everything else to be simply too low-brow. Let me further state, for the record, that I’m lying through my teeth.
Now, I don’t watch a [...]

Almost forgot: John Hodgman on the Rachel Maddow show

John Hodgman appeared on the Rachel Maddow show last night, and had, among other things, this to say:
One of the reasons I find this election so exciting, as a “fake expert”, is that it’s a referrendum on reality. You know, obviously there’s a lot of fiction telling and storyline spinning going on out there. [...]

This is right out of the headlines. Senator John McCain attacked Senator Barack Obama’s readiness for office today… what a surprise… he continues to try to scare American’s about his opponent, backsliding from his brief moment of decency week before last.
Reminds me of the movie An American President, from which I have taken today’s quote:
He [...]
