Creationists attempt a flanking maneuver with disinformation

You’ll just love this one, folks: reading the Bible promotes critical thinking?

Whoa, whoa, whoa… What? Sweet Flying Spaghetti Monster, give me strength! Never thought I’d hear that one. I guess within a few years, we”ll probably hear of someone actually trying to make the argument that teaching Creationism in high school biology classes actually helps students better understand evolution…* The bottom line is that nothing, absolutely nothing, is too patently false, too intentionally misleading, too unnecessarily obfuscating of the real issues, or even too hypocritical for these people.

These people aren’t merely trying to “spread the word”, folks.  This is an organized campaign being conducted in the name of telling everyone else how to live their lives and what to believe and think. It is that and nothing more elegant than that.

David Silverman, Bible as Literature:

Critical-thinking skills are “heightened exponentially” when you read the Bible? Truly a laughable LIE so they can LEGITIMIZE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TEACHING RELIGION. Isn’t there a commandment about lying?

Yes, I’m certain I read that somewhere once…

* In that regard, this tactic isn’t all that different that the tactic my kids sometimes took with me when they were younger children: anything I state as a “reason why” you shouldn’t do something, you turn into a “reason why” you should do it.
