Catholic church speaks out against, what? Education?

Sorry, alter ego, but uh, I can’t not say something about this.  The Rt. Rev. Patrick O’Donoghue, the Bishop of Lancaster and the man charged with reversing the decline in attendance at Catholic Mass in the UK, is blaming many, if not most, of society’s ills on… you guessed it: education. Now here’s a guy who [...]

Quote of the day

Those who talk most about the blessings of marriage and the constancy of its vows are the very people who declare that if the chain were broken and the prisoners left free to choose, the whole social fabric would fly asunder. You cannot have the argument both ways. If the prisoner is happy, why lock [...]

Jets end Titans win streak, and end it hard

The Tennessee Titans got blown out by the New York Jets today, 34-13.  I can’t speak for any Titans fans other than my family, but golly gee whiz, we’ll take a 10-1 start any time.
Saddest of all is that the Titans didn’t wake up until the 3rd quarter was nearly over.  Had they been awake [...]

Quote of the day

Kansas minister Mark Holick, being interviewed by CNN’s Rick Sanchez about the sign he put up stating “American we have a Muslim President / This is sin against the Lord”:
Well, my goal is to tell people about the truth, uh, that I believe the truth of the Bible states…
Ay, there’s the rub. Again we see, [...]

Bullock and Vanden Bosch practice

Linebacker Keith Bullock and defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch both practiced yesterday, which is good news.  The Tennessee Titans will need them both this weekend.
Vegas oddsmakers seem to have the Titans at about 5 point favorites, but I think ESPN is probably closer to what I expect with the Titans favored by 1.5 points. I [...]

Racism rears its ugly head in days and weeks following election

Associated Press:
Cross burnings. Schoolchildren chanting “Assassinate Obama.” Black figures hung from nooses. Racial epithets scrawled on homes and cars.
Incidents around the country referring to President-elect Barack Obama are dampening the postelection glow of racial progress and harmony, highlighting the stubborn racism that remains in America.
From California to Maine, police have documented a range of alleged [...]

Titans remain undefeated; first team to double digit wins

It wasn’t pretty. It certainly wasn’t commanding. In fact, it was just enough. But…
The Tennessee Titans, after a dismal first half performance, scored three unanswered second half touchdowns to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-14.  The Titans remain undefeated, if anything but perfect, and become the first team to accrue double digit wins this season.
Way to [...]

Supreme Court narrowly upholds Bill of Rights

The Onion (hey, come on, it is “America’s finest news source”):
The Supreme Court’s latest decision comes on the heels of last month’s 6-3 ruling to abolish the pursuit of happiness from the three inalienable rights guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence.
Damn!

Priest tells flock no communion if you supported Obama

Here goes another wacky Catholic (sorry, “alter ego”):
COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him “constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil.”
The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said [...]

Obama and McCain to meet on Monday

Associated Press:
“It’s well known that they share an important belief that Americans want and deserve a more effective and efficient government, and will discuss ways to work together to make that a reality,” Obama spokesman Stephanie Cutter said in announcing the meeting.
Awesome.
