More on the Creationist high school vs. UC ruling

Fox News now has the story (citing a story in the San Francisco Chronicle–how weird is that?).

I just don’t see what the big deal is–really don’t–I mean, unless contrary to their protestations the Creationist lobby is really just trying their old “force everyone to believe what we believe” tactic, that is.

I find this indistinguishable from having “2 + 2 = 5″ marked as incorrect by a math teacher. I mean, sure, a philosophy (so long as it’s not logic class) or sociology or even art teacher might give you points for the “interesting” nature of your answer, but in math class, it’s wrong and there’s no debate about it. No one says that this is how God wants it, no one says that the school is infringing upon their constitutionally protected religious freedom by forcing them to conform to our best understanding of mathematical reality. No, it’s just wrong–plain and simple.

This is the Creationist equivalent of “playing the race card”, which is to say that any perceived slight is protested as an attempt to discriminate based on religious beliefs. Sad.

I don’t care what your religion is, if your holy book contradicts everything we know about reality, I pick reality.
