Yet another example of the morality police in action…

So it seems that a group of Indiana do-gooders, hell-bent on saving people from themselves, are taking photos of people entering and leaving a porn shop and posting those photos on a public website. Now, that website probably gets three hits a year (like this site), but that’s not the point.

vjack, writing at Atheist Revolution Morality Police Go After Indiana Adult Store nails it:

The newspaper in which I found this story, The Indianapolis Star, described this as reflecting “the latest clash of small-town values, including a heaping serving of religious fervor, against what some here view as an increasingly hedonistic and dangerous world.” Yes, but it is also a story about Christians attempting to force their morality on others.

The Christians recording license plates and photographing customers want to close the store. They do not want adults to have access to the material sold at this store. Why? They believe that what the store does is morally wrong. It offends their Christian sensibilities, and they do not trust other adults to make their own decisions. They would deny their neighbors this freedom.

Thank you vjack! Your conclusions are dead-on.

This is a prime example of something that simply gives me the red-ass. I support your right to practice any religion you choose, or no religion if that’s what you choose. I really do. But don’t try to impose your beliefs on me! And don’t tell me that by defending the secular status of the completely secular nation that our forefathers created I am somehow imposing my beliefs on you!

I stand by what I’ve said a thousand times before: the desire to tell other people how to live their lives is a character flaw.

That is so strange - I swear I left a comment here the other day but I must have done something wrong. Thanks much for the link. I thought this story was an interesting example of the morality police in action.
