First baseball game

On June 19, 1846, the first “real” baseball game in history was played on the Elysian Fields in Hoboken, New Jersey, due to a lack of suitable grounds on Manhattan. The game was played between Alexander Joy Cartwright’s New York Knickerbockers and the New York Nine, who were actually a group of Cricket players. The Knickerbockers lost but their game caught on all over the city.  And the rest, as they say, is history…
