The Pope today thanked consecrated women virgins gathering at the Vatican for their “Vatican-do attitude.” No really he thanked them for their “total gift” to Christ.
Consecrated virgins are women who take a vow of lifelong chastity in service of the Church.
I know I’m a “different breed of kat” but I can’t understand how self-denial is a gift–to anyone. Sounds like more nonsense from the Mother Teresa school of suffering, if you ask me.
For those of you who still think Mother Teresa was a kind, godly woman who helped the sick and suffering by building hospitals, well, WAKE UP! Mother Teresa built hospices, sure, but she didn’t actually help anyone. She gathered the suffering together so that she could be close to it (suffering). You see the sect that Mother Teresa belonged to believes that it is only through suffering that you get “closer to God.” And I thought I was a nutjob…
Anywho, back to the virgins. They actually believe that they are “betrothed mystically to Christ” through a hold rite. Right! I can understand the historical importance of the consecrated virgins to the history of Catholicism, mind you, as they were the forerunners of what we today call nuns. But, that’s about as far as I can go…
A U.S. group which attended the conference estimated there are more than 3,000 consecrated Catholic virgins worldwide.
Wow! 3000! Let’s see, on a planet of over six and one-half billion people… you do the math!
