Microsoft Corp. has posted a major package of updates and security fixes for its Windows Vista operating system:
So far, the software maker has determined that only a handful of programs will fail in some way after SP1 is installed.
Microsoft said SP1 will block several applications from running for “reliability reasons.”
Wait a minute? Did I read that right? A service pack for Vista? I thought Vista wouldn’t require service packs, or maybe I’m mistakenly remembering something else… Let me go dig…
Ah, yes, I was at least half-right. Cringely’s predictions for 2007, #8:

Speaking of Microsoft, Windows Vista SP1 ships in June despite the fact that Vista structurally shouldn’t require service packs. Except it will.
I’ll take that as a hit. Yay me!
