Out of wedlock births on the rise

Irrespective of your beliefs on out-of-wedlock births (even if you believe an all-loving god would deliberately punish what you probably refer to as an “innocent child” because of the decisions of the parents), they are on the rise. A study from Centers for Disease Control indicates that “unmarried childbearing reached a new record high in 2006″:

The total number of births to unmarried mothers rose nearly 8 percent to 1,641,700 in 2006. This represents a 20 percent increase from 2002, when the recent upswing in non-marital births began. The biggest jump was among unmarried women aged 25-29, among whom there was a 10 percent increase between 2005 and 2006.

You get that? Gone are the days when out-of-wedlock births were predominantly a “teen pregnancy” issue. The largest jump in births to unmarried mothers between 2002 and 2006 was in the 25-29 demographic–a statistic that would tend to indicate (to me anyway) that we are looking at deliberate decision making based on changing societal mores.

Interesting.
