TN lawmakers to vote on abortion resolution

Tennessee lawmakers, disturbed by the level of freedom enjoyed by Tennesseans, are expected to vote today on a resolution that would put more limits on the ability of Tennesseans to obtain abortions. The resolution seeks to nullify a Tennessee Supreme Court ruling that the Tennessee Constitution offers greater protection for abortion rights than the U.S. Constitution. That 2000 ruling threw out state laws requiring a 48-hour waiting period, that clinics must provide detailed information about the procedure and that all but first-term abortions be performed in hospitals.

Now, I’m against abortion, but that’s as far as I take it because ultimately I’m “pro-freedom”. I suppose that in the highly-charged arena of the “abortion debate” (as though there were any actual debate that had taken place in scores of years) I would have to be considered “pro-choice”, because what business it it of mine?

I don’t believe in going swimming in ice-cold water either; in fact, I consider ice swimming to be highly-dangerous as it is often older persons who engage in this risky activity. But that’s it. I’m against it so I just don’t do it. I don’t try to have polar bear clubs outlawed. Consequently, I’ve limited my “against abortion” stance to those areas of life that actually concern me–my life–by having been responsible, for my entire life, with my penis and, more importantly, with my ejaculate.

Truthfully, I’m even more against abortion, since the “Plan B” pill have become widely available (it should be noted that Plan B is an emergency contraceptive–it works only before pregnancy has occurred–as opposed to Mifepristone, a.k.a. “RU-486″, which was basically an abortion pill, used to terminate a pregnancy of up to 49 days gestation). But again, what business is it of mine?
